Coming Soon: Disney Lorcana Card Authentication

ScrapperScan started with one job: telling real Disney pins from scrappers. Soon it will do the same for the trading card game taking over the Disney collecting world. Here's what's coming, how it works, and why we built it the way we did.

Why Lorcana, and Why Now

If you collect Disney pins, chances are good you've picked up a Lorcana card or two โ€” the communities overlap heavily, and the problems do too. As chase cards climbed into serious money on the secondary market, counterfeits followed, exactly the way scrappers followed valuable pins. Fake enchanted and legendary cards now circulate on online marketplaces and at trade tables, and many are convincing enough at arm's length to fool a buyer who doesn't know precisely what to check.

That's the same story we set out to fix for pins. So we're extending ScrapperScan to cover it: photograph a Lorcana card, get an authenticity score in seconds โ€” with the reasoning to back it up.

How the Lorcana Scanner Works

Card games gave us an advantage pins never had: an official reference for every card ever printed. When you scan a card, ScrapperScan doesn't just eyeball it in isolation โ€” it identifies the exact card and compares your photo against the official database scan of that card, side by side. Every verdict is grounded in what the genuine card is supposed to look like.

The AI examines the markers where counterfeits most often give themselves away:

01
Typography & Text
Font weight, spacing, and rules text are hard to reproduce exactly. Counterfeit printing plates drift on letterforms in ways the AI can measure against the reference.
02
Symbols & Layout
Ink and strength icons, lore counters, and card framing sit in precise positions. Misaligned or misproportioned elements are a classic fake tell.
03
Set Symbol
The set icon and collector number are checked against the identified card โ€” a mismatch means the card can't be what it claims to be.
04
Artwork Print Quality
Counterfeits are usually reprinted from scans, which softens fine detail and shifts color. The AI compares sharpness and color fidelity against the official art.
05
Border & Cut
Border width, corner radius, and edge quality reveal aftermarket cutting โ€” one of the most consistent physical tells on fake trading cards.
06
Card Back
The Lorcana card back is identical on every genuine card, which makes it a strong control: color balance or pattern deviations stand out immediately.

Just like pin scans, every Lorcana verdict comes with a 0โ€“100 authenticity score, a clear three-bucket verdict, and plain-English reasoning for each marker โ€” no black box.

It Also Tells You What the Card Is Worth

Because the scanner identifies the exact card to authenticate it, it can hand you something else in the same breath: the card's estimated market value, based on current market pricing data. Scan a card at a trade table and you'll know what it is, whether it's likely genuine, and roughly what it's worth โ€” before you agree to anything.

Value and authenticity belong together

A price is only meaningful if the card is real. That's why we show the estimated value alongside the authenticity verdict on the same screen โ€” one scan answers both questions at once.

Pins Aren't Going Anywhere

Pin authentication remains the heart of ScrapperScan, and it keeps getting better with every scan the community contributes. Lorcana arrives as its own dedicated scan mode in the same app โ€” pick pins or cards, and the right camera guides and analysis run automatically. One app for your whole Disney collection.

The Bottom Line

Counterfeits follow value โ€” it happened with pins, and it's happening with Lorcana. The playbook that protects your pin collection is about to protect your card binder too: scan it, see the evidence, and trade with confidence.
